SmartGrids Monitor
Information about EU and national SmartGrids Projects

Introduction: This SmartGrids Monitor summarizes and characterizes several hundred publicly available SmartGrids Projects in Europe. BACHER ENERGY LTD has collected information from various SmartGrids research, demonstration and pilot project sources in Europe such as the public databases of program managers and owners of the SmartGrids ERA-Net, the JRC (Joint research center) of the European Commission, universities, from public information provided by the EEGI (European Electricity Grids Initiative) documents and from AIT (Austrian Institute of Technology), providing high-quality clustering information of EEGI-Projects.
  • This SmartGrids Monitor represents an interactive web based solution which allows users to get insights into many European SmartGrids projects.
  • Any SmartGrids expert can download and update project information easily via web based forms. They are encouraged to quickly update information of SmartGrids projects where they are involved and which they know.
  • A key principle of this interactive SmartGrids monitor is to enter also a minimum number of key characteristics related to each project. This type of information will allow comparison of SmartGrids projects in the dimensions, goals, steps and stakeholders covered by and involved in SmartGrids projects.
  • The SmartGrids monitor has the overarching goal to support the research, development, deployment, demonstration and policy making processes towards the SmartGrids goals, i.e. to fulfill the European 20-20-20 goals and beyond and special national goals by making Electricity the dominant energy carrier, i.e. moving fossile based electricity generation, energy conversion for heating buildings and for the mobility sector towards use of electricity, "generated" by renewable energy and consumed by efficient processes at households, in the service and industrial sectors. Storage will play a key role in balancing the use of certain energy in critical time periods (from seconds over 15 minutes to seasons).
  • For ideas how to improve this approach, please let us know by email to Info@BacherEnergie.ch.
  • The activities (information collection, structuring, grouping of contents, interaction with stakeholders) of this SmartGrids Monitor are currently partially funded by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy and the SmartGrids ERA-Net, an FP7 project of the European Commission. The software development and environment is funded by BACHER ENERGIE AG (BACHER ENERGY LTD) and is (C) BACHER ENERGY LTD. For questions of using this environment for other application areas and for sponsoring the developments, please contact Info@BacherEnergie.ch.

Currently, you have the following options (A), (B) or (C)

(A) VIEW SMARTGRIDS PROJECTS

To view Smartgrids projects, select options of the steps 1a/1b/1c, 1d (enter any text) and 2 below. You will then get a pdf or a zip with embedded pdfs.

(B) EDIT SMARTGRIDS PROJECTS

To edit attributes of already entered Smartgrids projects, get the ID of the project (see printout after selection). Then, use (download and save with right-click) this template excel-file and enter all information using the ID in the left-most column. Then, send the excel file to info@bacherenergie.ch

(C) ENTER NEW SMARTGRIDS PROJECTS

To enter new Smartgrids projects, use (download and save with right-click) this template excel-file. Edit this Excel-csv file based on your needs. Then, send the excel file to info@bacherenergie.ch.

Selection: Choose options in STEPS 1a to 1d for which you want to download SmartGrids projects. Options are by default "inclusive OR" (i.e. the more you select, the more you get)
STEP 1a (optional): Country Selection
STEP 1b (optional): Functional Clusters Clusters have been defined in cooperation with national experts.
A: Integration of Smart Consumers (1,2); B: Integration of Smart Metering (3,4); C: Integration of DER and new users (5,6,7,8); D: Smart Distribution Networks (9,10,11,12);
STEP 1c (optional): Distribution Network Activities These distribution network activities have been defined in cooperation with national experts.
1: Active Demand Response; 2: Energy Efficiency from integration with smart homes; 3: Metering Infrastructure; 4: Smart metering data processing;
5: DSO integration of small DER; 6: System integration of medium DER; 7: Integration of storage in network management; 8: Infrastructure to host EV/PHEV;
9: Monitoring and control of LV networks; 10: Automation and control of MV networks; 11: Methods and system support; 12: Integrated communication solution;
STEP 1d (optional): Enter any search text In principle, you can enter any (sub-)text which you want to search. For example enter PHEV. Or enter HVDC. Or enter PHEV|HVDC which means get projects with PHEV OR HVDC. You can also enter the email of project managers or program owners or parts of it.
Note: Entering a text here wipes out the options above (but not vice-versa).
Enter seach text:
STEP 2: VIEW PROJECTS
The text in this section is changed dynamically based on your inputs above. After pushing the above button, the answer should come within 60 seconds (AT and DK have many SmartGrids projects; AT can take up to 2 minutes).
--> After pushing this button, another window will open. You will then need to wait for a hyperlink in this new window with access to all results. We recommend to use the latest browsers Firefox or Chrome. For viewing the results, you need the latest version of Adobe Reader and and a zip-file opener.
